Modhera, the famous city of Sun Temple is the origin place for all Modh Brahmins. At the time of invasion of foreign anti Hindu religion intruders, they left Modhera and settled themselves in different parts of Gujarat. As a result of this, small "Samavay" with limited number of Modh Brahmin families came into existence, which later on were called and named as "Gotra" (or "Tad" or "Gol").
The Modh Brahmins of Gujarat maintained and enjoyed the all round -in each and every aspect of life-, prosperity, during Chalukya Dynasty, King's rule for five centuries, which reflected their keen intelligence in administration, their heroism and generosity to help the distressed. The most renowned and eminent Modh Brahmni Kula families migrated from Gujarat to Saurashtra and settled here before nearly six centuries.
It was very difficult and sometimes impossible for these Modh Brahmin families in reality a very vast community - to continue their original relations or contacts due to lack of communication and transport. This resulted in bringing about the existence of different Samavayas/Tadas/Golas settling and remaining within their regional boundaries. This existence of planning of the vast family of Modh Brahmins into different Samavayas was inevitable. The formation of Samavayas restricting to their own way of life, customs and traditions; largely relating to matrimonial - blood relations helped in maintaining Kula parichayas - introduction of kulas and internal relation relating to their existence at large during the then period.
